Not sure if I’m just late to the game or not but just found this and tested it on my 24 pro and it works. I thought you could only use the Toyota app to auto start the truck. Hitting the lock button 2 times and on the 3rd time pressing it you hold and it will auto start. Hopefully this helps.

Good post, thanks! Had mine a while and didn't realize this either.

checked both my fobs, they seriously have a range of like 20 feet. I mean empty parking lot and no obstructions and I need to walk up to about 4-5 parking spaces away before it works and by then I’m grabbing the door handle which shuts the vehicle off if it’s mid crank. Absolutely worthless. Not to mention if you don’t time the button presses right it just won’t work. Toyota really wants you pay for the app to have a functional remote start

You eventually have to pay for the fob too. I believe it's connected to the Service Connect subscription instead of the Remote Connect so you likely have 10 years.

Here's a Reddit thread about it.
I read through the Reddit thread, and I think someone at Toyota misunderstood the question.

The app works through the truck's cell connection–thus the need for a subscription. The subscription pays for the truck's cell service.

The fob connects from a radio signal.

I like the App though. Just get in hit the brake and tap the Ignite button and your good. Fob, truck shuts down. Annoying as hell.

It "remote" in the sense that if you were a garden slug, this would be the distance you could cover in 5 minutes. But for any human with legs, it's really about an 8 second walk.
