I may be getting ahead of myself here, but I'm wondering about the fuel tank. 18 Gallons is a real disappointment for range. I'm sure they did this to increase cargo capacity, but since it is supposedly the same frame as a Tundra with the end lopped off, would a Tundra 32 Gallon tank fit? They seem to look almost identical. Has anyone seen frame measurements yet? A new 32G tank from Toyota is around $900. Might be worth the trouble if it fits.

If not, Long Range America will have a larger one out within a year I’m sure. I intend to install one of their tanks
I'm sure they will, and I will go that way if I have to. Looks like their tanks are steel, which would make them weigh more (and they're more expensive). I am friends with a service manager at one of the local dealerships. They don't have much documentation on the Tacoma yet, but I know that they have one coming in shortly. I'll see if I can get him to measure. Meanwhile it would be great if someone could come across some documented measurements.

I’d be happy with about a 22-25 gallon tank. Main thing is I want at least 312 miles before a fill up in city driving.

Same type of frame. Not literally the same frame. It’s a smaller tank because they ran out of space under the bed due to the new type of frame, suspension, drive shaft and spare tire. Tundra tank most likely won’t fit.

Okay so how is Long Range America going to defy physics with a bigger tank. Warranty killer?

A custom tank can be made but honestly you’re never that far from fuel in modern America. If you are an extra fuel tank can be carried. It’s small but something that can be managed.

Lots of people are upsizing tires and doing the trail dump exhaust (myself included). At a certain point, the factory spare tire location can't hold the same size tires as people are upgrading to. Maybe they can fit a tank where the spare tire goes.

I'm patiently waiting for LRA to release something. But would be really cool if the Tundra tank would fit. That would be a super cost effective solution. I highly doubt it would though... It's almost double the size.

I suspect it was more than just space requirements. Smaller tank = less weight = more payload. Same reason I think a lot of trucks have the pizza-cutter "full size" spare. To juice numbers.

Yea ~4 gallon boost not worth it for me. Baja trips just gonna rotopax. the rest of time there’s petrol literally everywhere. I want the spare tire tucked away. Need the bed, camper shell rack & hitch for other gear.

So, how would a bigger tank interface with the computer to know how much gas you had on board?

Old timer in Baja showed me a trick about buying gas when desperate from 50 gallon jugs. Pour a lil gas on your hand let it dry if it drys super white it’s contaminated or watered down.

Hah, sounds real safe :) Couldn't imagine doing this when all gas had TEL in it. I wear gloves when sumping 100LL to prevent myself from getting that shit on my hands.

I just want to be able get 5 hours of endurance when towing at ~14ish MPG, right now I get a little over 3 hours of driving when I'm pulling a trailer, going 65. Usually I'm doing 8-10 hours a day max, so it would be worth it to me to be able to cut out a whole fuel stop. That would equate to a 26 gallon tank figuring the same reserve.

I don’t think it is about juicing numbers. Look at pictures and videos of the underside of a Taco with a full size spare. There is very little room.

I would think the Tundra bed is longer which is one reason why the tank can be bigger

3G CM Tundra bed is only 6" longer.... and that version can be equipped with the 32gal tank. In fact, the 6ft bed doublecab Tacoma & 5.5ft bed crewmax Tundra have almost identical wheelbases. However, the 5ft Tacoma DC is almost a foot shorter in WB. Track width is around 2-2.5" narrower for the Taco, so not a massive difference.

I think it wouldn't be too surprising if the smaller Tundra tank could drop in. But I don't think many will find that 4-5 gals is worth the upgrade. Would only make sense if the 32gal tank fits. Which it very well may, specifically for those with the 6' bed.
