Is anyone else having issues remote starting with the key FOB. It starts fine every time with the Toyota App. However, trying to start it with the FOB is pointless. I have only been able to successfully do it three times in the nine months I have owned my truck. Am I missing something or doing something wrong here? Press lock button three times, holding it down on the third push until it flashes the warning it is starting.

Any tips or similar issues out there.

Yeah, it ainā€™t ā€˜all that!ā€™ Gotta be ā€˜in rangeā€™ with the fob. Which I find is stooopid close to the truck. Whatā€™s the point of remote start if you gotta stand next to it to start it? šŸ˜–

The range is stupid short. I was able to remote start with the fob when my truck was outside and I could see it through the Window. At least we have that much. My wife's Subaru is app only.

Mine works when I just look out the window at my truck and do it, but the issue I have is that you have to have the timing/rhythm of the button pushes JUST RIGHT. *click* *click* *HOLD* doesn't work for me. It's like *click* pause and wait for single flash on lights *click* pause and wait for single flash on lights *hold* It's so finnicky.

Itā€™s definitely a line-of-sight issue. I was on the second floor of a building and could see the truck. I tried it, and it startedā€”probably the equivalent of about 10 parking spaces in distance.

For the remote, the sequence is: press, press, then press and hold. However, it seems to be quite sensitive to the timing of the presses.

I just use the app and with the Iphone create a shortcut so literally just touch one button on my phone. I also do another for the morning that again one push and it opens the garage and starts the truck. It is awesome.

It's very annoying to use the remote and you have to time it just right. The lights have to flash between each press. I get it right maybe 1/3rd of the time so default to the app most of the time. They should have just made it like most other cars with a dedicated button or click once to lock and then click and hold to start...

Toyota wants us to pay for the app.

I had a 2020 Off Road and a 2022 Sport. They both very finicky to remote start with the fob..but not near as finicky as this 2024 Sport. My wife has a 2024 Corolla Cross AWD and her fob remote works similar to my 2020 and 2022 Tacoma did.

Fob works great for me but it needs to be relative* line-of-sight ~20-30' limit. Signals won't go through concrete but around & through most everything else I've found. For that reason, I faraday bag my fob in the house.

I use the app for a true remote start. default defroster/heat settings. Was road tripping, big snow storm, layer of ice crust on all vehicles one morning, I started it from my hotel room, super nice to jump into a warm rig. Kinda refusing to use an ice scraper & brush on my truck. Will probably just pay the monthly for it in the winter months exclusively since there's not many customizable options (inverter toggle/aux switch controls on the app)

sometimes I need to press the lock button 2x and then double press and hold the lock button (for a total of 4 pushes).

Sometimes that doesn't work and I need to lock once and then double press and hold the lock button (for a total of 3 pushes). It's really frustrating because I can just do it quicker with the app but now there's a bug (which I posted about in another thread) where as soon as I open the app, a get a random mac address attempting to connect to my phone. Only happens with the Toyota app.

I'm in Canada. Starting off the key fob doesn't work at all. I asked the sales person about this and was told it doesn't work in Canada. Have to use the app, which always works. Be nice to have it work off the fob though. Any Canadians out there that manage to have the fob work?
